What is AJROTC?

It is the Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. It’s avaible to 8th-12th graders as a high school course, partially funded by the US Army. We are also working with our incoming 7th grade classes to become Cadets next year. Our mission is to motivate young people to be better citizens.

We sponsor a variety of extracurricular activities through JROTC.  Among these are drill
teams, honor and color guards, marksmanship teams, and orienteering. Through your student’s participation in
these activities, they'll be a more involved student and community member. Of course, as a
JROTC Cadet, they'll also have time to socialize with other Cadets. Picnics and a military ball
are just some of the planned activities you'll enjoy.

The following activities are available to Cadets that are willing and available to volunteer to remain after school to practice/rehearse from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thurdays. All after school trainings are supervised at all times and Cadets are provided water breaks and appropriate rest to ensure their safety. Parents are asked to please pick your Cadet up at the back of the school area to ensure their safety.

Varsity Color Guard/ (7TH Grade) Junior Varsity Color Guard:

The Color Guard is one of the most visible extracurricular activities within the Knights JROTC program. Being part of the Color Guard gives a Cadet insight into how to properly present the national Colors for selected events throughout the school year (Football games, parades, school events etc.). The Color Guard consists of at 4-5 highly motivated Cadets that take pride in the presentation of the Colors at many events. We have female, male, and CO-ED teams. Each has a separate commander and there is always room for new cadets.

Drill Team:

A drill team is a marching unit of at least 10 cadets who perform military-style maneuvers in competition. In addition to standard drill commands, drill teams also perform exhibition drill in which they may perform intricate marching maneuvers along with spinning and throwing of facsimile rifles.

Awareness Presentation Team (APT): (NEW)

The Awareness Presentation Team (APT) is an academic endeavor designed to provide positive role models for elementary and upper elementary school students. This service learning program is in its infancy (beginning this year). Its purpose is to deliver an anti-bullying message to younger students, and plan to expand to cover topics such as peer pressure, conflict resolution, and preventing violence. The team will be composed of about 10 Cadets who are selected by their Instructors. Cadets will research a subject, then prepare and deliver a presentation. Our hope is that this team will make presentations to thousands of students annually and team members can qualify to wear the APT Badge on their JROTC uniform.

Physical Training Team (PT):

Knights JROTC supports physical fitness and well. With that, we do compete in said events at no less than two drill competitions (Vernon Parish and Natchitoches High School). The competition consists of one minute of (curl-ups) sit-ups and push-ups, and a timed one mile run. Female Cadets may earn points for running a mile in 10:30 or faster, while males earn points for running a mile in 8:30 or faster.

Saber Team:

This Knights team performs at most formal ceremonies (homecoming and JROTC Formal) as well as possibly competing at the various drill meets.  It is a team of nine cadets who use U.S. Army swords to perform their duties
