MEMORANDUM FOR: South Beauregard High School Parents/Guardians
SUBJECT: JROTC Welcome Letter “Motivating Young People to be Better Citizens”
SFC Rayford A. Jackson and I would like to welcome you and your student (Cadet) into the South Beauregard High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) family. Enrolling into the Army JROTC program is a big step in the maturation and development of a student cadet. We believe that every Cadet who successfully participates in at least one year of the program will experience a positive change in their behavior, attitude, and outlook on life. There are several benefits achieved in JROTC that parents and students cannot imagine:
Although the JROTC Instructors are retired from active duty service, we do not recruit Cadets for service in the military. However, we are knowledgeable about a variety of educational and service opportunities available to further individual Cadets concerning that career and educational goals. There is no military commitment whatsoever for those cadets that enroll in the program. Cadets are treated like responsible young men and women—of high standards; however, not like little Soldiers.
This program is very demanding and the expectations are high for those Cadets who enroll in the program. For illustration, the instructors expect five things from every student:
We need the assistance of every parent/guardian (s) to provide the best learning environment possible for your student. Please ensure the uniform issued to your Cadet is cleaned and ready for wear at least once per week and on special occasions. The uniform is U.S. Government property and should be returned to the school at the conclusion of the school year or term. The Instructors need parental assistance to serve as a member of a Cadet Booster Club. We always need chaperones, drivers, cooks, and etc. for a variety of functions during the school year. If nothing else, stop by and have a cup of coffee! Our office phone number is (337) 725-6825, ext. 11160.
Very respectfully,
CSM (Retired) Walter L. Edwards, Sr.
